We knew this 5 Stans journey would be ambitious, but we did not expect it to feel this complete. What impressed us most was not just the number of places we visited, but how different each part of the route felt. In Kazakhstan, the scenery was wide, open, and dramatic — Big Almaty Lake, Altyn Emel, the Singing Dune, and Charyn Canyon all had their own character. Then Kyrgyzstan brought a softer, greener mountain atmosphere, and the days around Karakol, Altyn Arashan, and Jeti-Oguz felt almost like a separate expedition inside the journey. By the time we crossed into Uzbekistan, the trip shifted again into architecture, Silk Road history, and city life, and later Turkmenistan felt almost surreal in its own way, especially Darvaza at night. What made the tour work was that the logistics were stronger than I expected for such a complex overland route. There were many moving parts — land borders, long drives, trains, internal flights, and multiple hotel changes — but the handovers felt organized and calm. Serik made the experience feel steady from beginning to end. He had a good sense of when to explain more and when to simply let us enjoy the moment. This was not an easy holiday, but it was an extremely rewarding one, and I would choose this route again in a heartbeat.

This was one of those trips that keeps changing shape as it goes, and that is exactly why I loved it. At first it felt like a mountain and nature tour, with Big Almaty Lake, Kaindy, Kolsai, and the landscapes around Kyrgyzstan. Then suddenly it became something much richer: nomadic culture, eagle hunting, border crossings, old Silk Road cities, ancient ruins, desert roads, and finally the strange magic of sleeping near the Darvaza Gas Crater. I think what made it feel real rather than “packaged” was that every country genuinely had its own mood. Kazakhstan felt big and cinematic. Kyrgyzstan felt raw, pastoral, and close to nature. Uzbekistan was full of monumental beauty and living history. Tajikistan was brief but memorable, especially with the Seven Lakes area adding another texture to the trip. Turkmenistan felt the most unusual of all — almost otherworldly in parts. That contrast stayed with me. Olzhas was excellent throughout. He was patient, practical, and very good at dealing with all the small questions that come up on a long multi-country journey. I also appreciated that the trip included both famous highlights and things that felt more personal, like local meals, roadside stops, and conversations with people along the way. It felt like a real overland journey, not just a sequence of photo stops.

I booked this tour because I wanted one long route that would give me a real sense of Central Asia instead of only showing the most famous monuments, and it absolutely delivered. The first days in Kazakhstan set the tone perfectly: alpine landscapes near Almaty, then the national parks, the Singing Dune, and the canyon scenery. I had already seen photographs of Charyn before coming, but in person it felt far more dramatic than expected. Kaindy and Kolsai were equally memorable, though in a quieter way. Crossing into Kyrgyzstan was where I realized how well designed the route actually was. The scenery changed, but not abruptly; the journey kept building. Karakol, the hot springs around Altyn Arashan, the red rock formations near Jeti-Oguz, and the valley days around Chon-Kemin all added a more active, mountain-expedition feeling to the trip. Uzbekistan then brought an entirely different form of beauty. Samarkand was magnificent, but I also loved Bukhara for its atmosphere and Khiva for the way it felt almost preserved in amber. Then came Turkmenistan, which was unlike anything else on the route. Darvaza at night was one of the strangest and most unforgettable travel moments I have had anywhere. Sitting near that crater in the dark desert felt unreal. Aset was calm, efficient, and excellent at making a complicated route feel manageable. For a 20-day trip with so many transitions, that matters more than people realize.

What I liked most about this tour was that it never felt repetitive, even though it lasted almost three weeks. Usually on longer itineraries there is a point where everything starts blending together, but that did not really happen here because the route kept evolving. We started with mountain panoramas and lakes, moved through canyons and national parks, then into Kyrgyz landscapes and nomadic traditions, after that into the architectural grandeur of Samarkand and Bukhara, and later into much harsher, more remote desert scenery. Every few days it felt like the trip was opening a new chapter. There were many highlights, but some of my strongest memories are actually the contrasts: from the cool mountain air near Kaindy to the desert heat near Darvaza, from the silence of Altyn Emel to the intricate ornament and urban rhythm of Uzbekistan, from a camp-style evening to high-speed train travel. I also appreciated that the itinerary did not focus only on famous landmarks. Smaller moments — meals, guesthouses, scenery between destinations, short conversations at stops — made the journey feel grounded and human. Serik handled the tour with a lot of maturity. He was never overbearing, never too talkative, but always present and capable when needed. On a long route like this, that kind of steady guidance makes an enormous difference. This was not just a vacation for us; it felt like a real passage through a region.

This was a serious trip in the best sense of the word. Not “serious” as in dull — quite the opposite — but serious in scale, ambition, and substance. You are covering five countries, multiple borders, several climate zones, very different historical layers, and a huge range of terrain. That is exactly what attracted us to the itinerary, and the experience matched that promise. Kazakhstan gave us the grand landscapes first: Big Almaty Lake, Altyn Emel, Charyn, and the lakes. Kyrgyzstan brought some of the most enjoyable days in terms of rhythm and scenery. The time around Karakol and Altyn Arashan had that adventurous mountain-travel atmosphere without becoming too rough. In Uzbekistan, Samarkand and Bukhara were predictably outstanding, but Khiva may actually have been my favorite for atmosphere. Tajikistan was brief, yet the Seven Lakes made a real impression. Turkmenistan was the biggest surprise overall. Ancient Merv had a haunting quality to it, and Darvaza absolutely deserves its reputation. If I had to be honest, there were some long travel sections, and this is definitely not the kind of tour for someone who wants to unpack once and relax by a pool. But for travelers who want range, texture, and a genuine sense of movement across Central Asia, it is excellent. Olzhas managed the complicated parts very well and kept the whole journey feeling coherent rather than fragmented.
