July 2025 • Solo

This trip felt like it was designed for people who truly want to see Kyrgyzstan, not just pass through it. As a solo traveler, I was hoping for a route that combined strong landscapes with a sense of safety and good organization, and that is exactly what I got. Song-Kul was magical — arriving in time for sunset over the yurts and then waking up to that soft morning light over the lake was one of the most memorable travel moments I have had anywhere. Kel-Suu was another major highlight. The journey there already felt remote and special, but the lake itself was even more dramatic than I expected, especially with the cliffs and changing light. I also loved that the route mixed those huge natural scenes with cultural moments like photographing eagle hunters and nomadic life. It never felt staged or superficial. The whole trip had a natural rhythm, from high pastures to canyons, valleys, and mountain passes, and it stayed visually exciting the entire time.

I joined this itinerary mainly because I wanted a photography-focused trip that went beyond the standard Kyrgyzstan highlights, and it absolutely delivered. The locations were very well chosen: Song-Kul for atmosphere and yurt camp life, Kel-Suu for scale and drama, Issyk-Kul for contrast, Fairy Tale Canyon for color, and then Enilchek and Sary Jaz for that raw, remote mountain feeling that is hard to find on more conventional tours. What I appreciated most was the balance. The trip was clearly built with photographers in mind, but it still felt like a real journey rather than a sequence of photo stops. There was enough time to enjoy sunrise and sunset conditions, but also enough movement to keep the route dynamic. Konorchek was a strong ending as well — after lakes, valleys, and glaciers, finishing with canyon scenery made the itinerary feel complete. If someone wants a visually rich overland route through Kyrgyzstan, this is a very strong choice.

This was one of the most beautiful and emotionally memorable trips we have taken in Central Asia. Every few days the scenery changed completely, which kept the experience fresh from beginning to end. Song-Kul had that peaceful nomadic atmosphere that immediately slows you down, while Kel-Suu felt wild and powerful. Later, the shoreline around Issyk-Kul, the red formations of Fairy Tale Canyon, and Zhety-Oguz added a different kind of beauty, warmer and more textured. I also really liked that the tour was not only about landscapes. The eagle hunters and yurt camp moments gave it a human side, and that made the photographs — and the memories — feel much richer. Enilchek and Sary Jaz were probably the most surprising part for me because they felt remote in a very real way, almost untouched. By the end, returning to Bishkek via Konorchek Canyon felt like a perfect final chapter. This route gives you both the iconic views and the feeling that you have gone much deeper into the country.
