This trip was exactly the kind of Kyrgyzstan experience we were hoping for — scenic, authentic, and just adventurous enough without feeling chaotic. Song-Kul was the emotional highlight for me. Arriving there after the drive through central Kyrgyzstan and seeing the lake, the open pastureland, and the yurts felt like entering a completely different rhythm of life. Spending the night in a yurt camp made the whole trip feel much more special than a standard hotel-based itinerary. The following days stayed just as strong. Aksai Canyon had a completely different mood, dry and dramatic, while Skazka and Jeti-Oguz brought that red-rock scenery that almost looks unreal in the late light. I also really enjoyed the stop in Kochkor and the optional felt-making experience, because it added something cultural and personal between all the landscapes. The whole route felt thoughtfully built. Serik was calm, capable, and very easy to travel with, especially on the longer road sections.

I have done a fair number of mountain trips, but this one stood out because it combined scenery with genuine local atmosphere. Song-Kul was beautiful in the obvious way, but what stayed with me most was the feeling of remoteness — the altitude, the silence, the horses, the evening by the lake. Then the trip kept changing character: Aksai Canyon, the southern shore of Issyk-Kul, the red formations near Skazka, the waterfalls around Barskoon, and then Karakol and Altyn Arashan. It never became repetitive. The day to Altyn Arashan was probably the most memorable for me. The rougher road, the valley scenery, and finally the hot springs made it feel like a real Kyrgyz mountain adventure rather than just sightseeing. Olzhas handled the route very professionally and never made the trip feel rushed. It felt like traveling with someone who genuinely knows the region rather than just following a script.

What I liked most was that this was not a polished, overpackaged tour. It felt much more grounded and real. The drives were scenic, the overnight stays had character, and there was a good balance between nature and local culture. Song-Kul in particular was unforgettable — sleeping in a yurt by the lake was one of those experiences that stays with you long after the trip is over. Kyrgyzstan has this amazing ability to change landscapes very quickly. One day you are in high alpine pastures, then you are looking at canyon formations, then hot springs, then valleys and river views. The route through Skazka, Barskoon, and Jeti-Oguz was especially good for that reason. I also appreciated the family-run accommodation and the sense of hospitality throughout. Aset was warm, knowledgeable, and had a very reassuring way of handling the journey.

This 6-day route gave us much more than we expected from such a compact itinerary. The program is well designed because it does not rely on just one type of attraction. Song-Kul gave us the nomadic highland atmosphere, Aksai and Skazka brought dramatic red canyon scenery, Barskoon added waterfalls and greener mountain views, and Altyn Arashan brought that more rugged, adventurous side of Kyrgyzstan. By the time we reached Chong-Kemin and Burana, the route felt complete rather than repetitive. I also appreciated how naturally cultural elements were included. The felt-making stop in Kochkor and the eagle hunting traditions helped the trip feel rooted in the country rather than just focused on landscapes. Serik was excellent with timing and flexibility, and the whole trip felt much smoother than I expected for a route with so many changing environments.

May 2025 • Family

We traveled as a family and wanted something that felt authentic but still comfortable enough for a multi-day road trip, and this itinerary worked beautifully. The yurt stay at Song-Kul was a huge highlight for all of us. It felt adventurous but also welcoming, and waking up by the lake was one of the most memorable moments of our Kyrgyzstan trip. The journey around Issyk-Kul South Shore was also fantastic. Skazka Canyon was much more visually striking than I expected, and the drive between stops was often just as beautiful as the destinations themselves. Altyn Arashan was probably the most exciting day, especially because it felt a little wilder and less predictable. Olzhas was patient, kind, and very good with family travel dynamics. He made sure the route stayed enjoyable rather than tiring.
