The Sound of Traditions

The Iqhlas Museum of Folk Musical Instruments is an intimate and very atmospheric place in Almaty, where history literally resonates. The halls feature the dombyra, kobyz, sybyzgy, zhetigen, and other instruments that have accompanied legends, kuyis, and rituals for centuries.
It is best to come here without haste: walk through the exhibition, examine the details, and feel the character of each instrument—from soft timbres to "loud" stories.
History
The name of the museum is associated with Ykhclas Dukenuly — an outstanding kobyz player and composer, whose legacy has become a symbol of the depth of Kazakh music. The exhibition helps to see how the musical culture of nomads was formed: the instrument here is not just an object, but a way to speak about joy, sorrow, and memory.
This is an excellent choice for getting to know Kazakhstan through its culture — especially if you want to go "a little deeper" than a standard city walk.
