The Musical Theater for Young Spectators in Astana is a state theater open to youth and family audiences, specializing in musical performances, musicals, and musical dramas. It has a good reputation and delights the public with both classical and contemporary productions, often featuring national color.

History

The "Musical Theater for Young Viewers" of the Akimat of Astana was established on October 1, 2020. The grand opening took place on December 14, on the eve of the Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The premiere of the first season was the musical drama by M. Auezov "Abai-Togzhan," dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the great poet and thinker of our people, Abai Kunanbaev. The director of the theater is Askat Maksimovich Mayemirov, a distinguished figure of Kazakhstan, PhD, and a graduate of the presidential international program "Bolashak." Previously, Askat Maksimovich served as the rector of the Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after T. Zhurgenov, director of the Kazakh National Drama Theater named after M. Auezov, president of JSC "Kazakh Auenderi" under the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, vice-president of the Association of Theaters of Kazakhstan, general director of the arts union "Kazakhconcert," and director of the Kazakh State Academic Musical and Dramatic Theater named after K. Kuanyshbaev. From September 28 to 30, 2020, a casting was organized, selecting over 50 talented artists. Among them are the Honored Artist of Kazakhstan, winner of the 71st Cannes International Film Festival, Samal Eslyamova, laureates of the state youth award "Daryn" Ayan Utepbergen, Asylkhan Tulepov, Darya Bolsanbek, Rasul Usmanov, Salamat Mukashev, Orazaly Igilik, and winners of international competitions Yernar Sadyrbaev, Aman Gumarov, and others. The work of the Musical Theater for Young Viewers is aimed at enhancing the cultural and aesthetic world, educational and developmental, and creative potential of children and adolescents through their engagement with the spiritual values of the younger generation and the staging of domestic and world musical productions.
