"ALZHIR" is a museum and memorial complex at the site of the Akmolinsk camp for the wives of traitors to the Motherland, dedicated to the thousands of women who were innocently condemned during the years of political repression. It includes a museum, memorials, exhibitions with personal belongings and documents, and architectural symbols of sorrow and memory.

History

The Museum and Memorial Complex of Victims of Political Repression and Totalitarianism "ALZHIR" (Akmolinsk Camp for the Wives of Traitors to the Motherland) is located near the city of Astana, in the village of Akmol. It was opened on May 31, 2007, on the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Political Repression. The complex was created in memory of the thousands of women unjustly convicted and exiled to this camp during the years of Stalin's repressions. The museum features documentary materials, personal belongings of the prisoners, photographs, letters, and archival records that reveal the tragic fates of the camp inmates. The exhibition conveys the atmosphere of suffering, courage, and faith of these women, many of whom were wives, mothers, and daughters of prominent figures declared "enemies of the people." The complex includes memorial structures: a wall of remembrance, sculptural compositions, and alleys dedicated to the inmates of "ALZHIR." The museum serves as an important reminder of the value of human rights, freedoms, and historical memory, calling for an awareness of the consequences of totalitarianism and the necessity of preserving peace and justice.
