History

The year 1997 marked the announcement of the city of Astana as the new capital of the state and, consequently, a new beginning in the country's history. "Bayterek" has a deep philosophical meaning, reflecting the worldview of ancient nomads. It is the Tree of Life, uniting three worlds: the underground, the earthly, and the heavenly. The roots of "Bayterek" correspond to the underground world, its powerful trunk represents the earthly world, and its lush leaves symbolize the heavenly world. The idea of constructing "Bayterek" belongs to the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. The architect of the "Bayterek" complex is the renowned Kazakh architect Akmyrza Rustembekov. In 2002, the monument "Bayterek" received the Grand Prix at the competition of the International Association of Architects Unions of the CIS countries (MASSA). The author of "Bayterek" achieved this goal by demonstrating harmony between the ancient spiritual culture of the Kazakh people and modern technologies, symbolizing the country's aspiration towards the future.
