The Kalibek Kuanyshbayev Theater is one of the leading dramatic stages in Kazakhstan. Founded in 1991, it combines national traditions with modern theatrical art, presenting audiences with performances that carry deep meaning. The theater's repertoire includes works of Kazakh classics, contemporary plays, and world drama. History

On November 15, 1991, the State Academic Kazakh Musical and Drama Theater named after Kalibek Kuanyshbayev in Astana opened its curtain with the tragedy "Akan Seri-Aktokty" by G. Musrepov. The first production was directed by the talented director and founder of the theater, Zhakyp Omarov. The theater received its first award in Ufa at the International Theater Festival "Tuganlyk" among Turkic-speaking countries in 1996. The sacred Shanyrak, which today reflects the spiritual needs of the nation, has been led by such talented figures in the arts as Zhakyp Omarov, Kadyr Zhetpisbaev, and the People's Artist of the Soviet Union, "Halyk Qaharmany" Azerbaijan Mambetov. The repertoire of the State Academic Kazakh Musical and Drama Theater named after Kalibek Kuanyshbayev is constantly updated and supplemented with national and world dramaturgy. The team has clear guidelines formed through participation in several theater festivals both in our country and abroad. This is the revival of Kazakh theatrical art, demonstrating through the pinnacle of the art of the past and present. On December 14, 2011, the theater was granted the status of "State Academic Theater." The State Academic Kazakh Drama Theater named after K. Kuanyshbayev, a contemporary of independence, turns 30 this year. In 2020, at the initiative of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, with the support of the head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, a new theater building was constructed, which will adorn the majestic architecture of the capital. This is a special concern of the state for the arts.
