History
The oldest theater in the capital of Kazakhstan - the State Academic Russian Drama Theater named after M. Gorky in Astana was established in the late 19th century and has gained a loyal audience thanks to its ability to hear, reflect the times, and appreciate truth in its work. Currently, the theater's repertoire includes 31 performances based on works of domestic and world drama, representing a wide range of genres and aesthetic directions, appealing to audiences of all ages. A mandatory tradition of the theater has been to cultivate its audience from a young age. Thus, for young admirers of theatrical art, the repertoire includes 7 fairy tales. In 1899, with the funds of local patrons, a permanent troupe was created, with a repertoire that was very popular among the townspeople. Initially, the vaudeville by Fedorov in one act "A Flash at the Hearth" was staged, followed by the three-act comedy "A Scandal in a Noble Family." Since 1959, the theater has borne the name of Maxim Gorky. In 2012, the theater was granted the status of "Academic."
