Getting There
Most travelers reach Shymbulak Ski Resort from Almaty or another major regional hub. Private transfers, guided tours, and self-drive routes are the most practical options depending on the season and road conditions.

Shymbulak (Chimbulak) is the main high-altitude resort in Kazakhstan, located in the Zailiysky Alatau gorge. The resort is situated at altitudes of approximately 2260–3200 meters: in winter, it is the center of skiing, while in summer, it serves as a place for walks, relaxation, and mountain panoramas.

The resort operates year-round and is connected to Medeu by a modern cable car: the ascent takes about 15 minutes and goes through coniferous forests and mountain slopes. At the levels of the resort, there are restaurants and terraces with views, rental points and equipment service, observation decks, as well as hotels and cozy chalets for those who wish to stay for a few nights.

In winter, Shymbulak offers slopes of varying difficulty levels, ski and snowboard rentals, instructors and skiing schools, chairlifts and gondolas, as well as illuminated areas for evening skiing. The best season usually lasts from December to March — with stable snow cover and a mild mountain climate.

From April to October, the resort transforms: you can take the cable car up to over 3000 meters, stroll along the viewing trails, and take photos with a panoramic view of the gorge. In summer, Shymbulak is one of the coolest spots in Almaty: people come here for fresh air, green slopes, and beautiful views, as well as for routes towards the passes and mountain trails.
