This was easily one of the best outdoor experiences I had near Almaty. The route was much more rewarding than I expected because it combined several very different settings in one day — the Shymbulak area, the higher mountain trail, and finally the glacier itself. The last part of the hike felt properly adventurous, but the views made every step worth it. If you enjoy active day trips and mountain scenery, this one is excellent.
A fantastic trek and definitely more memorable than a standard resort visit. We liked that the day started with scenic stops around Medeu and Shymbulak, but the real highlight was hiking deeper into the mountains toward the glacier. The landscape kept getting more dramatic as we climbed. It felt challenging at times, but never in a bad way — more like a proper mountain day with a big reward at the end.
We had an amazing time on this hike. The glacier area looked unreal, especially with the snow and the sharp mountain backdrop. What I liked most was that the trip never felt like a tourist attraction in the usual sense — it felt like a real outdoor experience. Shymbulak and Medeu were nice on the way, but the glacier was absolutely the star of the day.
I booked this during a work trip because I wanted something active and different from the usual city sightseeing, and it turned out to be the best part of my time in Almaty. The trail was not easy all the way, but it was manageable and very rewarding. The higher we went, the better the scenery became. A really strong choice for travelers who want actual mountain time instead of just a quick viewpoint stop.
This was such an unforgettable day. The ride up toward Medeu and Shymbulak was already beautiful, but the hike beyond that was the real adventure. The glacier and surrounding snow-covered slopes looked incredible, and the air felt so fresh and clean compared to the city. It is the kind of trip that stays with you long after it ends.
