Shymbulak (Chimbulak) é a principal estação de esqui de alta montanha do Cazaquistão, localizada no desfiladeiro de Zailiyskiy Alatau. A estação está situada a altitudes de aproximadamente 2260 a 3200 metros: no inverno, é o centro dos esportes de esqui, enquanto no verão é um lugar para caminhadas, descanso e panoramas montanhosos.

O resort funciona o ano todo e está conectado a Medeu por um moderno teleférico: a subida leva cerca de 15 minutos e passa por florestas de coníferas e encostas montanhosas. Nos níveis do resort, há restaurantes e terraços com vista, pontos de aluguel e serviços de equipamentos, mirantes, além de hotéis e chalés aconchegantes para aqueles que desejam ficar por algumas noites.

No inverno, Shymbulak é composto por pistas de diferentes níveis de dificuldade, aluguel de esquis e pranchas de snowboard, instrutores e escolas de esqui, teleféricos e gôndolas, além de áreas iluminadas para esqui noturno. A melhor temporada geralmente vai de dezembro a março — com uma cobertura de neve estável e um clima montanhoso ameno.

De abril a outubro, o resort muda: é possível subir acima de 3000 metros de teleférico, passear por trilhas de observação e tirar fotos com a panorâmica do vale. No verão, Shymbulak é um dos cantos mais frescos de Almaty: as pessoas vêm aqui em busca de ar fresco, encostas verdes e vistas bonitas, além de trilhas em direção a passagens e trilhas montanhosas.

Founded in 1954, Shymbulak Ski Resort originally served as a training base for Soviet athletes. Over time, it opened to the public and became the leading ski and snowboard destination in Kazakhstan. Located in the Zailiyskiy Alatau mountains, its snowy slopes offer excellent conditions for winter sports near Almaty.
The resort regularly hosts ski and snowboarding competitions, including the annual Alexandra Artemenko Prize. Ahead of the 2011 Winter Asian Games, Shymbulak underwent major reconstruction, expanding its trails, upgrading lift systems, and adding modern infrastructure such as hotels, restaurants, a spa center, boutiques, and a private ski and snowboard school.
In March 2023, Shymbulak entered the Guinness World Records as the highest night ski slope in the world, reaching 3,200 meters above sea level - further strengthening its status as one of the top mountain resorts in Central Asia.
