Getting There
Most travelers reach Cânion Charyn from Almaty or another major regional hub. Private transfers, guided tours, and self-drive routes are the most practical options depending on the season and road conditions.

Only when you reach the edge does the landscape suddenly open up, revealing dramatic cliffs and the winding road leading down into the famous Valley of Castles.

In certain sections, the canyon walls resemble medieval fortress towers - which is how the Valley of Castles got its name.
Further along, you pass through natural "stone gates" formed by massive boulders before hearing the gentle sound of the Charyn River below. Along its banks grow rare Turanga poplars, trees known for their uniquely shaped leaves. The river area offers a refreshing place to rest after hiking, with shaded spots and picnic areas.
