Cañón Charyn

At first glance, nothing prepares you for what lies ahead. As you approach Charyn Canyon, it looks like endless steppe stretching to the horizon. Only when you reach the edge does the landscape suddenly open up, revealing dramatic cliffs and the winding road leading down into the famous Valley of Castles.

Today, there are several оборудованных descents into the canyon, but early adventurers once had to rappel down its steep walls before proper access routes were created. Visitors now descend by staircase and continue along the trail deeper into the canyon.

Along its banks grow rare Turanga poplars, trees known for their uniquely shaped leaves. The river area offers a refreshing place to rest after hiking, with shaded spots and picnic areas.

You can climb back up via a marked rocky trail, where you may even spot curious gerbils standing at the entrances of their burrows in the sandy slopes.
